Information about the Northfield Street/VT 12’s reconstruction project is included in the weekly construction updates. 

Weekly updates will be posted on this page and also on the City of Montpelier’s Facebook Pages, Makeover Montpelier and Montpelier Alive Facebook Pages.  Local media will also be posting update information weekly.  The City Clerk’s office will have paper copies of the updates available at the front desk.

Construction Update
Montpelier Transportation Projects


Project Location
: State Street, Main Street, and VT 12 – Elm Street – Work to include milling, paving, manhole and drainage structure adjustments and extensive sidewalk improvements.  VT 12-Northfield Street – new water, sewer, storm water improvements, sidewalks and a stabilized road base.

Thursday (6/22) and Friday (6/23) – Crews will be wrapping up the preparation work for final paving on State and Main Streets.  Structure work should be complete Thursday night (6/22) and crosswalk ramp work should be completed Friday (6/23).  Pike will be spot paving over a few low areas near the Main and State intersection and sweeping the streets throughout the project.

Northfield StreetFriday, June 23rd, crews will be working during the day on water or sewer near Memorial Drive Intersection.  Uniformed traffic officers will be on site to assist with traffic near Memorial Drive.  Saturday, June 24th, crews will be working on sewer and miscellaneous temporary water work.

Week of June 26th, 2017

Night Work:

Paving –Final paving is scheduled to start on Sunday night (6/25). Line striping will occur in conjunction with the paving operations.

Crews are planning to pave the side street entrances throughout the project Sunday night, then move to State Street and pave from Bailey Ave to Main Street followed by paving on Main Street. Paving is expected to extend through the end of the week.  

Paving is contingent upon favorable weather. If it rains, the schedule may be adjusted.

Day Work:

Friday morning (6/30), pedestrian signs at the newly replaced crosswalk ramps will be adjusted and reset.

There will be no day work on State Street between Bailey Ave and Taylor Street this week. Sidewalk work will resume after the holiday weekend.

Northfield Street Update –

Traffic:  The signed traffic detour using Derby Drive and Dog River Road is in now in effect through October 2017. 

Day Work:   There will be two active construction operations on site this week.  Crews will work on installing the new sewer main pipe from the Mobile station to Derby Drive.  Another crew will be installing a water valve on the existing water main to assist in facilitating the switch to the temporary line.

Water interruptions could occur this week to connect residences to the temporary water line. Interruptions are estimated to take 15-30 minutes.  Advance notices will be provided.

It is illegal in VT to use any handheld portable electronic devices while driving. The law carries fines of up to $200 with points assessed if the violation occurs in a work zone.
